Amman suicide bombing
an act of barbarity and cowardice

MCC urges Muslims around the world to "challenge not just the terrorists, but also the philosophy and political doctrine used by them"

TORONTO - The Muslim Canadian Congress has called the terrorist suicide bombings in Jordan, an act of barbarism and cowardice. In a statement, Jehad Aliweiwi a member of the MCC Board, who has family in Amman, said, "the indiscriminate killing of ordinary people in Jordan should remind all Muslims that they face an unprecedented challenge. A tiny group of Islamic extremists are committing acts in the name of Islam while very few are standing up to these bullies."

"Muslims around the world need to challenge not just the terrorists, but also the philosophy and political doctrine used by these cowards to justify their murderous deeds," said Jehad Aliweiwi.

"Invoking Islam to commit Muslim-on-Muslim violence, either physically or verbally, is reprehensible and those who showcase this terror as an act of 'resistance' are equally complicit in these crimes," he added. "This is neither resistance to US occupation in Iraq nor an act of valour or sacrifice; it is simply murder," Aliweiwi added.

Another MCC Director, Suhail AbualSameed, a Jordanian-Canadian who knows of people killed in the bombings, angrily denounced the use of suicide bombing of innocent civilians as a weapon of choice. "Those who use religion to advocate killing need to be exposed for who they are. They are cowardly terrorists. Those who indirectly justify these acts of terrorism in the name of freedom and liberation, are also culpable in these crimes," Suhail AbualSameed added.

The attacks in Amman, New Delhi and London also demonstrate another fact; Bush's war on terrorism has clearly failed and is contributing to the growth of terrorism around the world.

The MCC sent a letter of condolences to the Jordanian Ambassador in Ottawa expressing solidarity with the people of Jordan in their hour of sorrow.
